What this scanning laser vibrometer demo shows
The PVM-100 combines a laser Doppler vibrometer, two-axis gimbal positioning, RGB-D vision, synchronized data acquisition and modal-analysis software. The demonstration presents the coordinated workflow used to move from a defined measurement grid to non-contact vibration data and engineering analysis.
Surface vibration is measured without adding sensor mass to the test structure.
Planned measurement points are addressed sequentially with arrival and stability checks.
RGB-D information supports calibration, point planning and surface-geometry context.
Reviewed responses can be used for ODS, EMA or OMA analysis and mode-shape visualization.
Scanning laser vibrometer for structural modal testing
A scanning laser vibrometer measures vibration response at multiple spatial locations while a reference channel records the excitation or operating condition. The assembled response set supports operating deflection shape visualization and modal parameter identification without mounting an accelerometer at every measurement point.
Why use gimbal scanning?
The PVM-100 changes the pointing direction of the laser vibrometer with a two-axis positioning mechanism. This architecture supports wide angular coverage, distributed measurement points and configurable working distance for large or difficult-to-access structures.
For modal testing, positioning accuracy is matched to the optical spot and measurement geometry while vision data supports repeatable point definition and line-of-sight or surface-normal compensation.
Typical applications
- Blade, plate, panel and lightweight structural modal testing
- Non-contact vibration measurement where sensor mass matters
- Operating deflection shape analysis on machinery and assemblies
- Remote testing of hot, moving or difficult-to-instrument surfaces
- Research, validation and structural-dynamics education
From measurement points to engineering evidence
A practical scanning laser vibrometer workflow includes test-object definition, vision and gimbal calibration, grid planning, synchronized response acquisition, signal-quality review and analysis. The PVM-100 software organizes measurement, geometry, review and modal-analysis outputs so that engineers can trace how a displayed operating shape or identified mode was produced.
